Joan Cullinane of Sun Microsystems and Merrill Ebner, an ENG professor of manufacturing engineering, at the Emerging Technology Seminar on October 26, hosted by the ENG department. Over 125 people attended the seminar for industry partners, alumni, graduate students, and faculty. Speakers on the topic entitled Converting Products to Sales Revenue: Preparing for 2002 and Beyond represented a wide variety of companies, including Raytheon, Analog Devices, TCG Software, Sun Microsystems, Design Continuum, Solectron, and Cisco Systems. Major challenges in manufacturing reconfiguration in the face of changing product technology and sagging demand were highlighted by speakers, along with product innovation and redirection, intensive use of global information, and contract design and manufacture.
