Currently there are three avenues of research in the group.<\/p>\n<p>The first area uses of highly fluorinated aryloxide and alkoxide ligands for the (perhaps transient) stabilization of high oxidation states in first-row transition metals. These complexes are being investigated for C-H oxidation and functionalization with Cu(I)\/O<sub class=\"subscript-Character-Style\">2<\/sub> (<span id=\"u279-7\"><em>Chem. Eur. J.<\/em><\/span>, <span id=\"u279-9\"><strong>2017<\/strong><\/span>, <span id=\"u279-11\">8212<\/span>, <a class=\"nonblock\" href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1002\/chem.201605926\"><span id=\"u279-13\">publication link<\/span><\/a> ) (<span id=\"u279-7\"><em>Chem. Eur. Chem. Int. Ed.<\/em><\/span>, <span id=\"u279-27\"><strong><strong>2013<\/strong><\/strong><\/span>, <span id=\"u279-29\">1000<\/span>, <a class=\"nonblock\" href=\"http:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1002\/anie.201106091\/full\"><span id=\"u279-31\">publication link<\/span><\/a> ).<\/p>\n<p>The second area of research involves making building blocks to assemble quasi-1D structures with metal-metal bonds and metal-metal interactions.\u00a0 We are interested in using the phenomenon of metallophilicity, (<span id=\"u279-37\"><em>Dalton Trans.<\/em><\/span>, <span id=\"u279-39\"><strong>2010<\/strong><\/span>, <span id=\"u279-41\">3543<\/span>, <a class=\"nonblock\" href=\"http:\/\/pubs.rsc.org\/en\/content\/articlelanding\/2010\/dt\/b920389c\">publication link<\/a>) which is the attraction of electron rich (pseudo)closed-shell metal centers e.g. d10 Au(I), d8 Pt(II), for each other.\u00a0 We have used these relatively weaker attractive forces in combination with electrostatics to form one-dimensional chains of metal atoms (<span id=\"u279-46\"><em>Inorg. Chem.<\/em><\/span>, <span id=\"u279-48\"><strong>2006<\/strong><\/span>, <span id=\"u279-50\">6120<\/span>, <a class=\"nonblock\" href=\"http:\/\/pubs.acs.org\/doi\/pdfplus\/10.1021\/ic060830z\"><span id=\"u279-52\">publication link<\/span><\/a> ) for investigation as low-dimensional semi-conductors.\u00a0 We have done extensive studies (<em>Acc. Chem. Res.<\/em>, <strong>2018<\/strong>, 1063, <a class=\"nonblock\" href=\"https:\/\/pubs.acs.org\/doi\/10.1021\/acs.accounts.7b00585\"><span id=\"u279-55\">publication link<\/span><\/a> ) with heterobimetallic lantern complexes containing unpaired electrons that can pair up via metallophilic interactions.\u00a0 (<em>Chem.
