Smith has a mixed educational background in public health and the arts. She is an emerging writer with essays published in\u00a0<\/span><em>Ruminate<\/em><span>,\u00a0<\/span><em>Birdcoat Quarterly<\/em><span>, and\u00a0<\/span><em>The Common<\/em><span>, among others. Her courses include Ethical Missteps in Public Health, which addresses racism in medicine; and Every Life, A Story, which examines memoir and personal essay.
