{"id":8337,"date":"2014-08-15T12:40:00","date_gmt":"2014-08-15T16:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/writingprogram\/?page_id=8337"},"modified":"2014-08-15T12:41:12","modified_gmt":"2014-08-15T16:41:12","slug":"artist-lee","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/writingprogram\/journal\/past-issues\/issue-6\/artist-lee\/","title":{"rendered":"From the Artist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"\/writingprogram\/files\/2014\/07\/I6-Cover-Final.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/writingprogram\/files\/2014\/07\/I6-Cover-Final.jpg\" alt=\"I6 Cover Final\" width=\"264\" height=\"339\" class=\"wp-image-8329 alignnone\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>What is &#8220;The Pink\u00a0Boar&#8221;?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Pink Boar\u201d is a picture that I created to illustrate my message to the children in North Korea.<\/p>\n<p>While the mountain boar symbolizes an impregnable\u00a0creature that\u00a0shows\u00a0hostility, this\u00a0boar with a bush of Korean rosebay (a pink flower) is a cute image\u00a0that can evoke a smile.\u00a0Thus, the boar is much less\u00a0intimidating.<\/p>\n<p>The North Korean civilians are constantly living under\u00a0threats from the government\u2019s Military First policy. The citizens follow strict regulations from the government\u00a0because\u00a0they\u00a0are afraid that their actions and words might be taken offensively and therefore result in their\u00a0execution. But they do not have to live in fear. Children especially\u00a0don\u2019t need to grow up that way\u2014what\u00a0they may need the most is a good chuckle to have their fears\u00a0disappear.
