Celebrating Membership that Matters

This year we celebrate new beginnings and amazing accomplishments at Boston University and in the BU Women’s Guild. In particular, we have remarkable new women leaders at our helm. We recently celebrated the inauguration of the 11th President of Boston University, Dr. Melissa Gilliam. We also have a new University Provost, Dr. Gloria Waters. And I am delighted to announce the new BUWG Honorary President, Jasmin Patel. Jasmin joined Boston University as the inaugural Vice President of Strategy & Innovation in August. Her office supports the BU community in developing large-scale projects, building external partnerships, and bringing new ideas to fruition. In her role as BUWG Honorary President, Jasmin serves a critical role in supporting the Women’s Guild and aligning our efforts with the strategic priorities of the President.

We also celebrate the accomplishments of BUWG in 2023-2024, including:

  • $257,500 in scholarship awards to 57 students the 2024-2025 year
  • $120,000 in Fisk House graduate student housing awards
  • $4,500 donations to the BUWG Endowed Scholarship Fund, now at $142,000
  • Our first Membership Survey
  • Establishment of the BUWG Ambassadors program
  • Creation of the BUWG charter and the revision of the BUWG by-laws

Looking ahead, we have an exciting calendar of programming planned for BUWG members in 2024-2025, including professional development workshops on networking and negotiations, an allyship event with the BUWG Women of Color Circle with keynote speaker Dr. Melissa Gilliam, and our annual awards lunch with Dr. Penny Bishop the new Dean of Wheelock College of Education & Human Development.

I hope you will join the BU Women’s Guild in our efforts and activities this year. I invite you to join or renew your annual membership for 2024-2025 today. Membership in the Women’s Guild and the BUWG Women of Color Circle is open to Boston University staff and faculty, inclusive of all gender identities and expressions. As an organization, we come together to network, learn, volunteer, and fundraise. Annual dues help fund programming throughout the year for members and their invited guests.

We look forward to connecting with you this year!
