Sassan Tabatabai is a poet, translator, editor, and scholar of\u00a0medieval Persian literature. He regularly teaches all levels of Persian language and literature in WLL, as well as all four humanities and both social science courses in the Core Curriculum. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

His\u00a0work has appeared in a number of publications including\u00a0Essays in Criticism<\/span><\/em>,\u00a0<\/span>The Christian Science Monitor<\/span><\/em>,\u00a0Literary Imagination<\/span><\/em>,\u00a0The Republic of Letters<\/span><\/em>,\u00a0Senecca Review<\/span><\/em>,\u00a0<\/span>Leviathan\u00a0Quarterly, and Harvard Review Online<\/span><\/em>. He is the author of\u00a0Father of Persian Verse: Rudaki and his Poetry <\/span><\/em>(Leiden University Press, 2010), Uzunburun: Poems.<\/span><\/em>\u00a0<\/span>(Pen and Anvil, 2011), Sufi Haiku<\/i> (Nemi Books, 2021), and translator of the novel Blind Owl<\/i> by Sadeq Hedayat (Penguin Classics, 2022). He is on the steering committee of the Master of Fine Arts in Literary Translation, and is affiliated faculty with the Global Medieval Studies Program. His current work includes the translation, interpretation, and re-appropriation of classical Persian Sufi poetry. Other than his scholarly and creative pursuits, he is a former amateur boxer with over 30 years of boxing experience.
