Research and Teaching<\/h2>\n

Professor Maurer teaches and writes about Spanish poetry with special emphasis on poetry\u2019s relations with music and painting, translation, and textual criticism. He also teaches in Boston University\u2019s MFA program in Literary Translation<\/a>. His first book was a biography and edition of the sixteenth-century poet Francisco de Figueroa and his most recent, with Andrew A. Anderson,\u00a0Federico Garcia Lorca en Nueva York y La Habana: Cartas y recuerdos<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n

Maurer is the editor of Garc\u00eda Lorca\u2019s\u00a0Collected Poems<\/em><\/a> and\u00a0Selected Verse; <\/em>his lectures (Conferencias<\/em>); his early prose (Prosa in\u00e9dita de juventud<\/em>), <\/em>and editor, with Andrew A. Anderson, of Garc\u00eda Lorca\u2019s complete letters (Epistolario completo<\/em>)<\/a>. <\/em>His translated books include New Letters to a Young Poet<\/em><\/a> by Joan Margarit; Lorca\u2019s\u00a0Deep Song and Other Prose, <\/em>In Search of Duende;<\/em><\/a>\u00a0A Season in Granada;<\/em>\u00a0a collection of letters between Lorca and Salvador Dal\u00ed (Sebastian\u2019s Arrows <\/em><\/a>published by Swan Isle Press), \u00a0The Art of Worldly Wisdom<\/em><\/a> by Baltasar Graci\u00e1n; an anthology of Graci\u00e1n\u2019s other writings (A Pocket Mirror for Heroes<\/em>); Running Back Through the Rain<\/a><\/em> (co-translated with Ben Heller) by Ra\u00fal Barrientos; and The Complete Perfectionist: A Poetics of Work<\/em><\/a>\u00a0by Juan Ram\u00f3n Jim\u00e9nez (Spanish translation by Andr\u00e9s Soria Olmedo, 2016, Madrid, Fundamentos). His biography<\/a> of American painter and writer Walter Inglis Anderson won the 2003 Eudora Welty Award and the Non Fiction Prize of the Mississippi Academy of Arts and Letters.<\/p>\n

Maurer\u2019s digital humanities project\u00a0\u201cStreets and Dreams\u201d<\/a>\u00a0mapped Lorca\u2019s movements in New York (1929-30) and coincided with the exhibition \u201cBack Tomorrow: Lorca, Poet in New York\u201d<\/a> at the New York Public Library, co-curated with Andr\u00e9s Soria Olmedo. In 2019, Maurer curated the exhibition \u201cJard\u00edn deschecho:\u00a0 Lorca y el amor<\/a>\u201d at the Centro Federico Garc\u00eda Lorca, Granada. He is an Acad\u00e9mico Correspondiente of the Real Academia Espa\u00f1ola, \u2018Official\u2019 in the Orden de Isabel la Cat\u00f3lica, and Acad\u00e9mico Electo of the Academia Norteamericana de la Lengua Espa\u00f1ola.<\/p>\n

Maurer\u2019s courses and seminars\u00a0have studied the 20th-century reception of Baroque authors in Spain and Latin America, the uses of archives, Spanish language poets in New York, contemporary adaptations of works by Lorca, the historical avant-garde, \u00a0and the intersection of lives and texts (biography, epistolography, and textual criticism.)<\/p>\n
