The Russian language club met every Wednesday throughout the fall semester to discuss a variety of topics. Headed by the Russian FLTA, Sasha, students explored subjects such as traditional Russian holidays, folktales, cuisine, and music. Students were also given the opportunity to have detailed conversations with students studying at Moscow university. See below for more information on highlights from the Russian events!<\/p>\n

September 27 –<\/strong> The Russian Club met at the BU Global House Lounge for an evening devoted to learning about customs in Russia. Students learned about traditional attire worn for certain celebrations and what unique traditions Russian people identify with.<\/p>\n

October 10 –<\/strong> The Russian club met in the WLL department with plans to learn about Russian Holidays! They discussed the main Russian holidays that are significant to the Russian people such as New Year, Defenders of the Motherland day, International Women\u2019s day and the Victory day! Students also talked about the notion of Russian hospitality and practiced pronouncing some toasts together!<\/p>\n

October 24 – <\/strong>A Russian Halloween: students gathered together for an evening devoted to the most scary and wicked creatures from Russian folklore and how to get rid of them.<\/p>\n

November 16 –\u00a0 <\/strong>Early on a Friday morning, BU students gathered on campus as they prepared to sit down for a Skype meeting with students studying at Moscow University. A popular conversation topic for the students was learning about student life in Russia beyond the stereotypes; BU students were encouraged to come to the call with questions prepared for the Moscow students. Both groups of students had learned from WLL’s Russian FLTA, who was thrilled to see her students from around the world coming together to help one another with both their Russian and English language skills.<\/p>\n

November 28 –\u00a0<\/strong>Students in the Russian Language & Literature programs enjoyed a dinner together at Cafe St. Petersburg in Newton with Prof. Malykhina and WLL’s Russian FLTA, Sasha.<\/p>\n
