Dr. Jalene Tamerat is a senior lecturer in education leadership at Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development. She is also the director of the Carol Johnson Leadership Fellowship, a co-designed collaboration between Boston University and Boston Public Schools that is focused on developing leadership capacities among educators within the district. Her research interests include funds of knowledge pedagogy, global education, immigrant education, teacher\/leader preparation, and institutional-community partnerships.<\/p>\n
Before joining Boston University, Dr. Tamerat served as the associate director of Community-Engaged Teaching & Research at Northeastern University, where she led faculty development for service-learning and engaged research. Previously, she served as dean of Sposato Graduate School of Education, a practice-oriented residency and master\u2019s program for aspiring teachers. She began her career in education 2003 as a middle school science teacher and teacher leader in Boston Public Schools before eventually transitioning to serve as the district\u2019s Director of New Teacher Development.<\/p>\n
An active participant in the Boston community, Dr. Tamerat serves on the board of directors for the League of Women in Community Service, one of the nation\u2019s oldest and longest-running Black women\u2019s social clubs, and recently concluded her term as co-chair of the Community Advisory Board at GBH. She is a design team member and facilitator for the Teachers’ Lounge CLOC Fellowship, a teacher diversity PLC consultant with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education\/William James College, and serves on an advisory council to the Boston Teacher Residency.<\/p>\n
