Three BU Wheelock graduate students coordinate up to 130 BU work-study tutors at 10 elementary school sites in Boston.<\/p>\n<h4>BUILD Celebrates 20 Years<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/A_dZj43LBsQ\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/h4>\n<h3>GEAR UP<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mass.edu\/gearup\/home.asp\">GEAR UP<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>(Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a federally funded program that serves low-income and first-generation middle and high school youth at the East Boston High School and the Mario Umana Academy K-8. Program participants gain awareness and preparedness for their short- and long-term educational and career goals.\u00a0GEAR UP is awarded to the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education with support from American Student Assistance.<\/p>\n<h3>Upward Bound<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ub\/\">Upward Bound<\/a> is a federally funded TRIO program that prepares low-income and first-generation college high school students from the Boston Public Schools for success in postsecondary study. The program serves 86 students and provides after-school academic support and test preparation; assistance with college application and financial aid processes; and a six-week academically focused summer residential program. The program serves 50 students and includes after-school academic support and test preparation, assistance with\u00a0 college application and financial aid processes; academic year and summer science tracks led by Boston University STEM faculty and graduate students; and a six-week academically focused summer residential program.<\/p>\n<h3>Boston University Planning and Advising for Transitions to Higher Education (PATH)<\/h3>\n<p><span>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/path\/\">PATH Advising Program<\/a> seeks to increase the number of low-income, first generation, and underrepresented students entering and completing college. <\/span><span>To achieve this mission, PATH places well-trained recent college graduates into under-served high schools to serve as near-peer AmeriCorps college and career advisers. PATH advisers work within their school placements to promote a culture of college attendance and to increase educational opportunities for all students. PATH advisers assist students with completing college or trade applications and applying for financial aid; advisers are committed to helping each student find his or her \u201cbest-fit\u201d institution. <\/span><span>PATH Advising Program currently has 23 advisers serving in 26 high schools across Boston, Malden and Somerville.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>PATH is funded through a partnership with Boston University, the Massachusetts Service Alliance (AmeriCorps), the Boston Public Schools, Malden High School, Somerville High School, the State Street Foundation, EdVestors and Liberty Mutual.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BUILD BUILD is is an elementary school-focused literacy program run in partnership with Boston University\u2019s Student Employment Office and funded through America Reads and America Counts.
