But as educators navigate the rapidly changing landscape, it&#8217;s not without challenges, including ensuring that AI use is accessible and equitable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this Conversation with the Dean, Dean <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/wheelock\/profile\/penny-bishop\/\">Penny Bishop<\/a> is joined by BU Wheelock\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/wheelock\/profile\/michael-chang\/\">Michael Chang<\/a>,&nbsp;&nbsp;the Margaret McGuire Earl Career Development Professor and assistant director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/earlcenter.bu.edu\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/earlcenter.bu.edu\">Earl Center for Learning &amp; Innovation,<\/a> and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/wheelock\/profile\/thomas-mckenna\/\">TJ McKenna<\/a>, clinical assistant professor of science education and program director of the college\u2019s new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/wheelock\/degree-program\/ai-education\/\">AI &amp; Education program<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, Michaela Boeder (Wheelock\u201928), Gia Kim (Wheelock\u201927), and Ana Lindert-Boyes (Wheelock\u201926) joined the conversation. None of them said, \u201clearn to code.\u201d Instead, they emphasized critical thinking, adaptability, empathy, ethical judgment, creativity, and human connection. That made me smile, because those are exactly the things good teaching has always focused on. [\u2026] That\u2019s why it\u2019s so important that educators lead the conversation about AI in education, rather than chasing behind it.<\/p><cite>T.J. McKenna<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-secondary-color has-text-color\">Designing AI tools for inclusivity<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>When we think about building the tool [\u2026] we also have to think about who we&#8217;re designing those tools with and how we&#8217;re creating the space for people to work together across different contexts. It&#8217;s not as easy as putting all these people, all these different kinds of experts, at the same table, right? We have to actually design it very carefully to start to imagine kinds of education that are equitable and supporting heterogeneous forms of learning\u2014and even coming to envision possibilities for learning that we might not see in our school today.<\/p><cite>Michael Chang<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-secondary-color has-text-color\">Facing the hard questions on AI<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>It really taught me a lot about having those uncomfortable dialogues when talking about the responsible use of AI.
