Wheelock Celebrates Students & Field Supervisors at 2019 Community of Educators Reception
On Wednesday, May 1 the Office of Professional Preparation hosted its annual Community of Educators reception at the Metcalf Trustee Center on BU’s Charles River Campus. The reception honored BU Wheelock’s teacher candidates, pre-service educational professionals, and the supervising practitioners who oversaw their fieldwork experiences at schools and other locations throughout Greater Boston.
The evening began with remarks from Linda Banks-Santilli, Associate Dean of Student Affairs, and Ryan Lovell, Director of Professional Preparation. A panel featuring teacher candidates and their supervising practitioners and moderated by Dr. Rebekah Louis followed. Those candidate-practitioner pairs included:
- Jamie Gallup, teacher candidate, and Kim Barnum, Supervising Practitioner from Pierce in Brookline Public Schools,
- Magdalena (Maddie) Rojas Lynch, teacher candidate, and Deborah Sercombe, University Program Supervisor
- Casey Chon, teacher candidate, and Katie Quackenbush, Supervising Practitioner from Boston Latin Academy.
The reception featured a live jazz band, a photo booth, and refreshments. It marks a transition point for many of our pre-service educators, who have completed their final field placements this semester, and celebrates the invaluable contributions supervisors make to our students and community.
We’d like to thank those who attended, and the staff who made it possible–especially BU Wheelock events coordinator Maryellen Madaio and members of the Office of Professional Preparation.
