Watch: BU Wheelock Child Life Alums Contribute to Team Brave Partnership Between Shriner’s & Boston Firefighters Burn Foundation

Team Brave, a partnership between Shriner’s Hospital for Children and the Boston Firefighters Burn Foundation was recently featured in a piece on WCVB’s Chronicle. Spotlighted in the segment is BU Wheelock Child Life Studies alumni, Rebecca Wildes. Wildes has worked as a Certified Child Life Specialist at Shriners for the past decade and leads the program in conjunction with the Boston Firefighters Burn Foundation.

The partnership pairs patients with Boston firefighters for community outings, easing their fears as they head back into the world following an often-traumatic burn event. “A significant part of my role in the hospital is helping to facilitate coping and adjustment after a burn injury,” Wildes explains. “Facilitating external programming – like Team Brave is so fulfilling, especially because I am able to see the resiliency [of our patients] firsthand.

Also making a cameo in the segment is Kay Hutchinson. Hutchinson was an intern at Shriner’s this past semester and is about to graduate from BU Wheelock’s Child Life Studies program.
