Graduate Conference Travel & Research Funding

BU Wheelock College of Education & Human Development is committed to supporting graduate students’ growth in the educational research community through participation in local, national, and international educational research conferences. Annually allotted funds support attendance at educational research conferences and may include conference registration fees, transportation, lodging, and meal expenses.

Funding Amounts for Fiscal Year July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025

Doctoral students: $1800 for conference travel expenses, research, and other program-related expenses.

Master’s students: $500 for attending conferences, and other program-related expenses. The amount increases to $800 for those presenting at conferences.

Deadline: All reimbursements requests for travel and research funding must be submitted by June 15.

For more information on your department’s support fund policies, please contact your administrative coordinator. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. If the request is approved, you will receive an email notification from your department’s administrative coordinator.

If approved, will need to submit your receipts to the Graduate Student Reimbursement Form within 30 days after the purchase.

Professional Development Literature
Only up to $200 of the annual allotted budgets for students ($1600 for doctoral and $400-$750 for master's) may be used for professional development literature such as training manuals, study guides, or essential texts/resources for qualifying tasks or dissertation work. These requests cannot include required course materials. Please do not purchase the texts independently. The administrative coordinator will place the order.

Students must apply for funding prior to completing any payments. Retrospective requests will not be accepted. Reimbursable Receipts Policy
If your application is approved, you must submit the Student Reimbursement Form within 30 days after your travel period or research purchase: https://www.bu.edu/wheelock/information-for-students/graduate-student-reimbursement-form/ REIMBURSABLE RECEIPTS POLICY: You will need to upload each receipt separately. Each receipt must include the following information clearly: 1. Vendor name 2. Transaction date 3. Amount 4. All food receipts must be itemized and any alcohol must be marked clearly. 5. For group meal receipts, please indicate which items you ordered individually. Only individual expenses are reimbursable. If the receipt is missing any of this information, please mark up the receipt.
