Joshua Goodman Appointed to White House Council of Economic Advisors
Starting in August 2022, Joshua Goodman, an associate professor of education and economics at Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development, will serve for one year as a senior economist on President Biden’s Council of Economic Advisers (CEA). Goodman will take a leave of absence from his duties at BU Wheelock during this time.
Based in Washington, DC, the CEA advises the President on economic policy based on data, research, and evidence. Goodman will likely focus on the CEA’s education portfolio, which will include helping prepare the President’s annual Economic Report, reviewing federal education policies and programs, and analyzing policies that will benefit US students and workers.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to make a difference in the world of federal policy,” says Goodman. “My training and research has focused on carefully measuring and understanding the impacts of various policies on people’s outcomes. My hope is to bring this expertise to bear when advising the White House on how best to design policy and predict the impacts of the policy options under consideration.”
At BU Wheelock, Goodman works as an applied microeconomist on labor economics and education policy. He studies topics that include higher education policy, STEM education, and curricular rigor in mathematics courses. Some of his recent studies have focused on COVID-19’s impact on enrollment in public schools and the effect of school infrastructure on learning. Goodman is also affiliated faculty with the Wheelock Educational Policy Center (WEPC).
