BU Wheelock Launches Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies
Next summer, BU Wheelock will welcome a new cohort of doctoral students to campus to begin earning their Doctor of Education (EdD) in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies. The EdD program will focus specifically on early childhood through grade 12 school leadership.
The diverse cohort made up of working school and district leaders will pursue their doctorate through a three-year schedule of courses designed to fit their professional needs, with studies scheduled for a two-week summer institute and on one weekend each month in the fall and spring semesters. New cohorts will be recruited into the program every other year.
“There are numerous attractive professional opportunities in the world of educational leadership,” says Robert Weintraub, senior lecturer and program director for the EdD program. “Our EdD will open doors to that world.”
Cohort members will learn from professors who are highly respected practitioners in the field, including principals and superintendents with the academic and practical experience to ensure that students gain real world tools and practices to inform the work they are already doing in their schools and communities.
To facilitate this, projects and dissertations will be based in their home schools and districts. Students will work both collaboratively and individually to test, refine, and monitor innovative solutions to real problems, driving student, teacher, and leader growth in their own educational communities.
