BU Wheelock’s Amie Grills, associate dean for faculty affairs and professor, has been awarded fellow status by the American Psychological Association’s Division 53, the Society of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology (SCCAP). Her fellow status was recognized at APA 2019, the organization’s annual conference which this year took place in Chicago.

The APA has an exhaustive and competitive process to receive fellow status. Grills is among an elite group of only 150 peers within her division, which awards fellow status “based on long-term impact and broad achievement contributing to the science and practice of clinical child and adolescent psychology.” In order to be nominated for fellow status, three current fellows from Division 53 provided letters supporting Grills’ nomination by detailing how she met the criteria for fellow status.

SCCAP describes that criteria as requiring that “a person’s work has had a national impact on the field beyond local, state, or regional levels.” Evidence of this can be demonstrated in a variety of ways, including work citations, community service and teaching, receiving grants and awards, and impact through community service, among others.

Prior to receiving fellow status, Grills has served the APA as a psychology doctoral program accreditation site reviewer and chair. She has been recognized by APA’s Division 35 (Society for the Psychology of Women) with a Georgia Babladelis Best Paper Award in 2013 and an honorable mention for the Psychotherapy With Women Award in 2016.
