Boston University has two comprehensive resources: the Boston University Editorial Style Guide and the BU Brand Guidelines. Please refer to these when generating materials, website, or social media.

BU Wheelock follows the Chicago Manual of Style and Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary.

Members of the BU Wheelock community are welcome to submit story ideas about our faculty, staff, students, and alumni. This information may be used for our website, social media, or other channels. We are especially interested in stories about new research, research results, publications, awards, events, and appointments.
 
Please submit news with as much notice as possible so that we can properly schedule any promotion. If we are writing a story, it can take up between 2-4 weeks.
 
This information may be also shared with other BU outlets, including BU Today, Bostonia, or the Brink.

Marketing and recruitment for BU Wheelock academic programs is shared between BU Admissions, BU Wheelock Graduate Admissions, and BU Wheelock Marcom.
 
Our office manages marketing and advertising efforts for new courses and programs. Once your new course or program is approved and added to the BU Bulletin, we can help you promote it to the wider BU community and beyond. We can add information to the BU Wheelock website and promote through our social media channels.

The Marcom office builds and updates website profile pages for all faculty, staff, and doctoral students at BU Wheelock. If you’re a new member of our community, please take a moment and send us your details via one of the following forms. Once your profile is posted, we’ll share a link with you.

To submit changes to an EXISTING profile, follow these steps:
 

• Copy and paste your existing profile into a Word document
• Using tracked changes, make any changes
• Submit your changes using the Marcom contact form

We rely on the entire BU Wheelock community to help us keep the website up to date and useful for our readers. So if you spot a typo or if your page needs an update, please let us know.
 
The amount of time an update will take will vary depending on the complexity or the amount of content. In general, please allow the following:

• For simple updates to existing content: up to 5 business days
• For more complex updates, including overhauling a page or section: up to 2 weeks
• To create a new webpage or add a section: 4-6 weeks
• Once we’ve taken a look at your request, we may set up a meeting with you before setting the timeline.

Please note: While we are happy to meet to help you explore your options, BU Wheelock Marcom does not develop, maintain, or update websites created by centers, faculty, or staff.

If you’ve been contacted by the media, please let us know. We’re here to provide guidance and tips if you have any questions. We also appreciate knowing so we can keep an eye out for the final piece.

Once the media mention is live, use the Marcom contact form to let us know. We will promote on social media and add to the newsroom on the website. If you share it on social media, please tag us.
 
If you’d like to be listed on BU Experts, the external directory maintained by BU Public Relations, submit a new profile or email pr@bu.edu to update an existing profile.

Writing point-of-view or opinion pieces is a great way to share your thought leadership and expertise on topics you are interested in. There are several outlets for these types of piece:
 

• BU Wheelock has a blog. If you are interested in writing content for the blog, contact us.
• POV is a feature for BU Today.
• The Conversation is a nonprofit, independent news outlet that reaches millions of readers. BU is a university sponsor.
• You can also publish point-of-view pieces as articles on LinkedIn.

 
If you are interested in writing an op-ed or letter to the editor, check out the BU Marcom guidelines. If you place an op-ed or letter to the editor, please let us know. We can promote it through BU Wheelock’s social media channels.

BU Experts is an externally facing directory maintained by BU Public Relations. Submit your profile to BU Experts using this form. To update an existing profile, email pr@bu.edu.

BU Wheelock Marcom provides graphic design for the college’s general digital and print communications. If your center, department, or program needs support for graphic design or a website, contact us and we can provide you with a referral to a freelancer. Please be in touch as early as possible in your process to discuss the timeline for any projects.
