Drs. Green, Holt, and Doctoral Student Reid Publish Article on the Role of Teachers in Supporting Students Following the 2013 Boston Marathon Attack

Green & HoltDrs. Jennifer Green and Melissa Holt, along with doctoral student Gerald Reid, co-authored an article that was featured in School Mental Health, published by Springer. The article, titled “School and classroom-based support for children following the 2013 Boston Marathon attack and manhunt,” is based on a survey that suggests that while teachers are well-tuned to student psychological distress following a crisis, support varies considerable.

The study, which was led by Professor Green, involved 72 schools and details the complex supportive role of teachers, and the importance of working with them to improve school response plans.

“Our results have implications for understanding perceptions of teachers and their potential role as first responders optimally positioned to detect mental health concerns and provide support to students,” said Professor Green.
