Dr. Kenann McKenzie to Present at Mass DESE Safe & Supportive Learning Conference

Dr. Kenann McKenzie, who directs the Aspire Institute at BU Wheelock, will present as part of a panel being held at this year’s statewide conference on Safe and Supportive Learning Environments: Using an Equity Lens to Support All Students. Taking place on Wednesday, March 27, in Leominster, MA, the conference will inform participants about equitable and inclusive practices that support healthy social, emotional, and physical well-being.

Organized by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education’s Office of Student & Family Support, the conference aims to support the: development of social emotional competencies through every day learning opportunities; implementation of trauma sensitive practices; and creation of supportive learning environments in community-based programs, schools, and districts that are culturally responsive and inclusive of all students and families.

In addition to directing the Aspire Institute, Dr. McKenzie served the BU Wheelock community as an adjunct assistant professor in our Educational Leadership & Policy Studies department. In fall 2018, Mass DESE appointed Dr. McKenzie to their newly formed Racial Imbalance Advisory Council.
