Dr. Howard Elected VP for Education and Training of the Society for Counseling Psychology
Dr. Kimberly Howard, associate professor and program co-director for BU Wheelock’s PhD program in counseling psychology, has been elected Vice President for Education and Training for the the Society of Counseling Psychology, Division 17 of the American Psychology Association (APA). The election results were announced by Dr. Arpana G. Inman, past president of the Society.
Dr. Howard succeeds Dr. Michael Scheel, PhD, of the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, who held the position from 2016 to 2019. As a member of the Executive Board, Dr. Howard will work with Counseling Psychologists and Professors from across the United States to fulfill the Society’s mission “to promote personal, educational, vocational, and group adjustment in a variety of settings.”
“The role of the Vice President for Education and Training is to provide information, resources, and activities to Counseling Psychology training programs that assist them in offering excellent training to the next generation of Counseling Psychologists” says Dr. Howard when describing her new role. She will begin her term in August, following the 2019 APA Convention in Chicago, IL.
Founded in 1946 the Society of Counseling Psychology has brought together “psychologists, students, and professional affiliates who are dedicated to promoting education and training, scientific investigation, practice, and diversity and public interest in professional psychology.” More information can be found on their website here.
