Dr. Greg Benoit Joins Wheelock as Lecturer of Math Education and Assistant Director of Earl Center

Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development welcomes Dr. Greg Benoit, who joins our community as a Lecturer in Mathematics Education and Assistant Director of the Earl Center for Learning & Innovation.

Dr. Benoit has recently graduated from Teachers College, Columbia University with his doctorate in the Math Education. He uses his experiences as a Boston Public School student and Boston Public School teacher as an anchor to his research and his educational philosophy. He believes witnessing multiple perspectives have helped him greatly understand the importance of equity and inquiry and is pleased to bring those perspectives to the Mathematics Program and Teaching & Learning Department at Wheelock.

Dr. Benoit uses practice as the ultimate method to examine and critique theory, as he constantly and continuously evolves his pedagogy further. His interests include gamification in mathematics, creation of mathematics identities, diversity in mathematics classrooms; the use of new theoretical frameworks to transform mathematics education and so on. His overall goal is to increase the magnitude of “a-ha” moments in mathematics classrooms.

As Assistant Director of the Earl Center for Learning & Innovation, Dr. Benoit works to advance instructional and pedagogical techniques to harness creativity and innovation for successful learning. One of the center’s primary objectives is to cultivate this creativity and innovation in teaching and learning across the University, and particularly with the faculty and students of BU’s Wheelock College of Education and Human Development.
