BU Wheelock Launches Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (EdD) Program
Next summer, BU Wheelock will welcome a new cohort of doctoral students to campus to begin earning their Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. The EdD program will be focused specifically on Early Childhood through Grade 12 School Leadership.
This diverse cohort made up of working school and district leaders will pursue their doctorate through a three-year schedule of courses designed to fit their professional needs, with studies scheduled for a two-week Summer Institute and on one weekend each month in the Fall and Spring semesters. New cohorts will be recruited into the program every other year.
Cohort members will learn from professors who are highly respected practitioners in the field, including principals and superintendents with the academic and practical experience to ensure that students gain real world tools and practices to inform the work they are already doing in their schools and communities.
To facilitate this, projects and dissertations will be based in their home schools and districts. Students will work both collaboratively and individually to test, refine, and monitor innovative solutions to real problems, driving student, teacher, and leader growth in their own educational communities.
“There are numerous attractive professional opportunities in the world of educational leadership,” says Dr. Robert Weintraub, Senior Lecturer at BU Wheelock and program director for the EdD program. “Our EdD will open doors to that world.”
Dr. Weintraub, himself an accomplished school leader, cites program affordability as a major priority in the program’s planning process. Students in this program pay BU Wheelock’s part-time evening and summer tuition rates, that will create what Dr. Weintraub describes as an “immediate and significant” return on investment.
Applicants interested in being considered for the Summer 2020 cohort can receive priority consideration by submitting their application before our January 8, 2020 recommended deadline. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until March 11, 2020.
