Communications & Website Consultant
BU Wheelock Marketing & Communications (marcom) Office seeks a short-term consultant to support the team during the implementation phase of our new website. The person in this position will work closely with the BU Wheelock marcom team as we migrate content from the current site and develop content for the new site. Demonstrated ability to use WordPress is required. This position reports to the Director of Marketing & Communications.
This is a temporary consulting contract for 15-20 hours per week ending September 30, 2023. Contract cost range is competitive and based on experience and demonstrated ability. Please provide details about expected hourly rate in cover letter when applying.Using WordPress, work with BU Wheelock marcom writers and editors to add content and format to specs of new site. Includes updating content migrated from old site and uploading new content.
Optimize content, making and implementing recommendations regarding SEO and custom/meta tags.
Upload visual content (photography and video) and format to specs of new site. Optimize visual content, adding alt text and captions as needed.
Conduct quality assurance (QA) testing on new site and troubleshoot bugs that may come up.
Liaise with website developer (Boston University Marketing & Communications) on QA, troubleshooting, and other technical questions that may arise.
Proofread content for errors and make changes as needed.
Manage and track content that will require double entry on current and new sites during transition period after site cloning.
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or a related subject, with 3 to 5 years related work experience. Experience using WordPress required; HT/HTML5 knowledge and proficiency in Adobe Suite (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) preferred
Experience with search engine optimization (SEO) and tagging
Strong ability to work independently, and to initiate and manage multiple projects
Excellent attention to detail and demonstrated ability to review content for errors
Strong written and verbal communication skills
