J. Keith Vincent\u2019s research\u00a0focuses on modern Japanese literature, queer theory,\u00a0translation, and the novel. He is the author of\u00a0<\/span>Two-Timing Modernity: Homosocial Narrative in Modern Japanese Fiction\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/a>(Harvard Asia Center, 2012).\u00a0Recent articles include\u00a0\u201cSekai ni hirogaru Shiki kenky\u016b to sono kadai\u201d\u00a0 (\u201cShiki Studies Goes Global\u201d) in the\u00a0<\/span>Shiki kaishi<\/em>\u00a0<\/span>#163, July 2019;\u00a0 \u201cTakemura Kazuko: On Friendship and The Queering of American and Japanese Studies\u201d in\u00a0Rethinking Japanese Feminisms<\/em><\/a>\u00a0<\/em>(2017); \u201cBetter than Sex?\u00a0 Masaoka Shiki\u2019s Haiku on Food\u201d in\u00a0Devouring Japan: Global Perspectives on Japanese Culinary Identity<\/em><\/a>\u00a0<\/a>(2017)\u00a0;\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0\u00a0\u201cQueer Reading and Japanese Literature,\u201d in the\u00a0Routledge Handbook of Modern Japanese Literature<\/em>\u00a0<\/a>(2016).\u00a0Recent edited volumes include\u00a0<\/span>Reading S\u014dseki Now,\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/a>a special issue of the\u00a0<\/span>Review of Japanese Culture and Society,<\/em>\u00a0co-edited with Reiko Abe Auestad and Alan Tansman (2017) and\u00a0<\/span>Honoring Eve,\u00a0<\/span><\/i>a Spring 2010 issue of\u00a0<\/span>Criticism\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/a>co-edited with Erin Murphy, on the work of queer theorist Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick. His translation of Okamoto Kanoko\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>A Riot of Goldfish\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/a>(Hesperus Press,\u00a0 2010) won the 2011 U.S. Japan Friendship Commission Prize for the\u00a0 Translation of Japanese Literature, and his translation of Tanizaki Jun\u2019ichir\u014d\u2019s novella\u00a0<\/span>Devils in Daylight<\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/a>was shortlisted for the Lucien Stryk Asian Translation Prize in 2018. His abridged translation of Sei Sh\u014dnagon\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>The Pillow Book (<\/em>2021) is available as an audiobook on\u00a0<\/span>Alexander<\/a>. He is currently working on\u00a0<\/span>Shiki: A Life in Haiku,\u00a0<\/span><\/em>a biography of Masaoka Shiki told through haiku, and\u00a0\u00a0a book on\u00a0haiku and the Japanese novel, with a focus on Shiki and Natsume S\u014dseki.<\/p>\n
