As a medievalist, she has examined various aspects of the history of Rus\u2019\u2014the polity that modern Ukraine, Belarus and Russia claim as their ancestor \u2014including the cultural impact of trade routes, the role of women in the ruling elite and the dynamics of literary transmission. Her research on twentieth and twenty-first century literature has focused on self-translation in the life narratives of Russian-American and Hispanic-American authors.<\/p>\n<p>She has experience in translation and interpreting, but her most challenging project to date was turning the oldest of the Rus\u2019 chronicles into Spanish. Translating from twelfth-century East Slavonic into a twenty-first century language and culture sparked her current project, which examines the concept and practice of translation in Rus\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Garc\u00eda de la Puente holds a PhD from the Complutense University (Spain) and has lived, taught and researched for extended periods of time in England, France, Germany, Poland, Russia and Switzerland. She has been a recipient of various research fellowships, including her most recently one from The British Academy. Her articles have appeared in <em>Russian History<\/em>, the <em>Slavic and East European Journal, Canadian-American Slavic Studies<\/em> and <em>The Translator<\/em> among others.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Garc\u00eda de la Puente teaches about Russophone literature and culture, about translingual writers like Nabokov, and about the intersection of the migrant experience and literature. Based in the Department of World Languages and Literatures, she is also affiliated with Women\u2019s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and is a regular instructor in The Core Curriculum.
