Her fieldwork is centered in the Middle East and Latin America regions, where she uses ethnographic research methods to investigate gendered experiences of militarization and violence in colonial and conflict contexts.<span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Dr. Ihmoud\u2019s current scholarship considers the relationship between structural and internal patriarchal power in borderlands areas\u2014where national interests and spaces overlap,\u00a0state power is most heavily contested, and new political, legal, and cultural norms are often created.<span>\u00a0<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>Her work draws on the insights of black, native and third world feminists to understand intimate, embodied experiences of racialized and gendered violence and access to justice.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Ihmoud\u2019s research has been published in various peer-reviewed journals including<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Cultural Anthropology<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em>(forthcoming),<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>State Crime<\/em>,<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Borderlands<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>and<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Biography<\/em>.<span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>She has also contributed to monographs for Harvard University\u2019s Carr Center for Human Rights Policy\u2019s Global Initiative on Violence Against Women and<span>\u00a0<\/span>UN Women\u2019s initiative on access to justice and rule of law.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span><a href=\"\/wgs\/files\/2017\/09\/Ihmoud-photo.jpg\"><\/a><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WGS Postdoctoral\u00a0Fellow 2017-19\u00a0 Dr. Sarah\u00a0Ihmoud is a Postdoctoral Associate in Anthropology and Women\u2019s, Gender and Sexuality Studies.
