8th Symposium of the International Association of Women Philosophers
Lessons from the Gynaeceum: Women PhilosophizingPast, Present and Future
Boston University, August 610, 1998

This 8th Symposium sponsored by the International Association of Women Philosophers will take place directly prior to the 20th World Congress of Philosophy. The title of the World Congress, PAIDEIA: Philosophy Educating Humanity, evokes the image of the great male philosophers of antiquity. As a gentle reminder that there have been women philosophers, too, in every historical era including ancient Greece, we have titled our symposium Lessons from the Gynaeceum: Women Philosophizing Past, Present and Future. (The gynaeceum was the women's quarters in the Greek household).

Publication

We anticipate the subsequent publication of selected papers presented at the symposium.

It is convenient to the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority trains (the "T"), and just four short stops from the Copley "T" station where the Marriott and Weston hotels and the World Congress headquarters are located."

The Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority's (MBTA) train system, known as the "T," offers fares that are presently $.85 each way for most local travel, including the trip from the airport to the hotels or residence halls.
