{"id":16033,"date":"2019-08-27T10:14:38","date_gmt":"2019-08-27T14:14:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/urop\/?post_type=profile&#038;p=16033"},"modified":"2019-08-27T10:15:17","modified_gmt":"2019-08-27T14:15:17","slug":"mary-jane-doherty","status":"publish","type":"profile","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/urop\/profile\/mary-jane-doherty\/","title":{"rendered":"Mary-Jane Doherty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Professor Doherty, a two-time finalist for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/provost\/awards-publications\/award-opportunities\/metcalf\/awards-for-excellence-in-teaching\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Metcalf Award for Excellence in Teaching<\/a>, teaches film production courses including her innovative approach to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ar\/2013\/\/doherty\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><em>NARRATIVE DOCUMENTARY<\/em><\/a>. She trained at MIT, where she produced <em>GRAVITY<\/em>, a film about experimental astrophysicists, then freelanced for Northern Light Productions, Blackside, and VIDA Health Inc.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Doherty emerged as a <a href=\"http:\/\/maryjanedoherty.com\/\">filmmaker<\/a> in her own right with two feature films following children growing up within the Cuban Ballet System: <em>SECUNDARIA<\/em> (2013) and <em>PRIMARIA<\/em> (2016), both traveling the international festival circuit.<\/p>\n<p>Now, she is finishing two films: one on the Boston Children\u2019s Chorus and the other on a group of Fishing Widows in Nova Scotia. In 2017 Professor Doherty was awarded the $10k Inaugural <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.gov\/news\/mayor-walsh-announces-recipients-boston-cultural-council-artist-fellowship-award\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><em>CITY OF BOSTON ARTIST FELLOWSHIP<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":15312,"template":"","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/urop\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/profile\/16033"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/urop\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/profile"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/urop\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/profile"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/urop\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/15312"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/urop\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/profile\/16033\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":16035,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/urop\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/profile\/16033\/revisions\/16035"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/urop\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=16033"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
