Overview
Topic: Preparing teachers to support students with mathematics disabilities in understanding word problems. (National Science Foundation Funded project, Year 3) This study’s current findings show a divide between general education and special education and how it has served to create a social justice issue for the field of teacher preparation of general education teachers. Stemming from this research our team has developed curricula for future use with pre-service teachers. We are testing the effects of our curricula in teacher preparation programs. Among other outcomes, we are rating performance in different instructional videos. Raters are needed. Training provided. Requirements: experience supporting/instructing students in some capacity, detail-oriented, ability to work independently and remotely, and interest in these topics. Commitment of up to 10 hours a week in 1-2 hour segments for duration of rating needs. Other research opportunities may arise.
