Volunteer Basis, Potential for UROP Funding

Overview

Dr. Raghu is a part-time teaching faculty at BU MET CS and an Instructor of Radiology at the Cardiovascular Imaging Research Center of Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Harvard Medical School. His research uses deep learning, a type of artificial intelligence, to estimate aging and the risk of developing age-related chronic disease based on medical imaging. Currently, the lab is exploring whether deep learning models can predict heart attack/stroke and lung cancer from chest x-ray images in order to better direct preventive care. The lab also explores the use of genetic data to better understand the biological mechanisms of increased risk and changes in appearance in medical images. Students will have the opportunity for hands-on research with large cohorts to develop new deep learning models. They will work with Dr. Raghu as well as with radiologists at MGH. Currently, we are seeking students with substantial programming experience, and some experience with data science and machine learning.
