Mission of the Undergraduate Council
The Undergraduate Council works to improve the quality of the undergraduate experience at BU by collaborating across Schools and Colleges to assure the highest academic standards and promote a vibrant culture and intellectual community in keeping with the University’s strategic plan.
To this end, the Undergraduate Council:
- Develops and proposes to the Provost academic policies that help assure the highest academic standards, promote the coherence of the undergraduate academic experience, and remove barriers to ensure fair access for students to all courses and programs;
- Works to identify and research areas of common concern across the Schools and Colleges that might be addressed by University policies or procedures;
- Discusses academic issues arising from academic units, sharing best practices in program development, administration, and advising;
- Consults on new programs emerging from the members’ Schools and Colleges, exploring potential opportunities for collaboration.
The Council receives regular reports from the Dean of Students, the Boston University Library, the University’s Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program, and the Kilachand Honors College, and consults with others as needed.
