Master Lecturer in World Languages & Literatures and Core Curriculum
Sassan Tabatabai is a poet, translator, and scholar of Medieval Persian literature. He is Master Lecturer in World Languages and Literatures and the Core Curriculum, and Coordinator of the Persian Program at Boston University. Tabatabai is also a member of the steering committee of BU’s Master of Fine Arts program in Literary Translation. His translations of Persian poetry have appeared in Harvard Review Online, Leviathan Quarterly, Literary Imagination, Pusteblume: Journal of Translation, Rattapallax, The Republic of Letters, and Seneca Review. He is the author of Father of Persian Verse: Rudaki and his Poetry (Leiden University Press), Sufi Haiku (Nemi Books), and Uzunburun: Poems (Pen and Anvil Press). He is also translator of the novel Blind Owl by Sadeq Hedayat (Penguin Classics), which was awarded the 2023 Lois Roth Persian Translation Award. His forthcoming translation work includes an English translation of the poetry of Mohammad-Reza Shafi’i-Kadkani (ILEX), and a Persian translation of the poetry of David Ferry (Boustan Books).
