Lane Harper

MFA Candidate in Literary Translation from Japanese

  • Title MFA Candidate in Literary Translation from Japanese

Lane has been translating works of fiction from Japanese since her high school years, and from the very moment she translated her first short story, translation has solidified itself as her dream profession. Having recently graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in Comparative Literature, Lane chose to study at Boston University to pursue her long-term passion for translation, which led her to choose her undergraduate field of study. Through her years of study, Lane has gained an interest in translation as an art form and opportunity for creative expression that works against established sociocultural rules and norms. Equally enthusiastic about literature, Lane has a deep interest in contemporary women’s horror fiction and how one can translate the grotesqueness and terror of living under hegemonic power structures.
