Hailing from the sunny coast of South Florida, Evan Laufman, a recent graduate of Boston University, earned his Bachelor of Arts studying Japanese Language and Literature. His 2022 translation of Motoyuki Shibata’s short story, entitled Valentine, earned him Boston University’s Han Suyin prize. In the Fall of 2023, he went abroad to Doshisha University in Kyoto, Japan, which allowed him to immerse himself deeply in his language studies. He currently works as a freelance translator, working with various clients to bring more manga to Western audiences. He is brimming with excitement at the prospect of continuing to hone his skills as a translator and as a speaker of the Japanese language.
