Full-Time Lecturer in Spanish
Elena Carrión Guerrero studied Translation and Interpreting (English and French) at the University of Granada, Spain, before teaching and translating her way through Finland, Canada, Seattle, Paris, Costa Rica, and Panama; finally arriving in Boston in 2011. Here she has continued to develop her passion for teaching and learning, with the goal of encouraging students to see the world through different lenses.
She strives to promote familiarity with the Hispanic world through using a wide variety of authentic materials (the arts, music, film, & literary texts) in her teaching. Other areas of interest include bilingual education, Spanish for heritage speakers, and translation. Recently, she has created a course where professional fields (journalism, literary, legal, & medical) are interwoven into the classroom by means of audiovisual translation. By integrating technology into language acquisition, erasing the line between the “real” world and the classroom, Elena hopes to inspire global citizens and lifelong learners.
