MFA Candidate in Literary Translation from Chinese

Originally from Singapore, Cheryl grew up studying Mandarin Chinese as a second language and later moved to Tokyo for her undergraduate studies at Waseda University, where she began learning Japanese. Her passion for languages and literature evolved into a fascination with literary translation, focusing on translating from both Mandarin and Japanese into English. To hone her craft, she entered several translation competitions and was selected as a finalist in the Twenty-first Annual JAT Contest for New and Aspiring Japanese<>English Translators held in 2025. In addition to Mandarin and Japanese, she has also studied French, Korean, and Malay.
