Anna Zielinska-Elliott is a translator of modern Japanese literature. She is the Polish translator of Haruki Murakami and has translated eleven of his novels, along with numerous short stories and essays. She has also translated Jun’ichiro Tanizaki, Yukio Mishima, Banana Yoshimoto, and other writers. In addition, Zielinska-Elliott is the author of a Polish-language monograph on gender in Murakami’s writing [“Haruki Murakami and the Actors in His Theater of Imagination,” 2015], a literary guidebook to Murakami’s Tokyo, and has authored several English-language articles on Murakami and European translation practices.
Since 2010 Zielinska-Elliott has regularly taught a popular workshop in Japanese translation and interpretation at BU. She offers other courses on Japanese language, translation, and modern Japanese literature.
