Boston Local Food Festival

If you’re a fan of farmers markets and buying local, you won’t want to miss the ninth annual Boston Local Food Festival, a free outdoor festival this Sunday at the Rose Kennedy Greenway, near the Seaport. Showcasing more than 75 vendors, including local farmers, restaurants, food trucks, fishers, and more, the event’s tagline is “Healthy local food for all,” and festivalgoers will have the opportunity to learn about food sustainability, healthy eating, and fitness. There will be live chef and DIY demos, a seafood throwdown, competitions, live music, and a family fun zone, featuring face-painting, a tide pool touch tank, and much more. So head down to the Greenway for a mouth-watering experience.

Thrive Exchange/The Felt Fanatic

Tucked between well-known chains like Ben & Jerry’s and Aldo, this two-room, two-company vintage clothing emporium is a must for fashion-conscious students. The front room is home to Thrive Exchange, a boutique selling designer fashion brands, sportswear, footwear, jackets, sweatshirts, and more, with products and styles from the 1980s to the present. Prices range from $20 for graphic tees to north of a couple of hundred dollars for select designer duds. Plus, Thrive offers a chance to not only buy, but to sell, trade, and donate as well.

In the back room, you’ll find the Felt Fanatic, which offers original vintage sports attire, including jerseys, tees, and sweatshirts, as well as jackets, shoes, and hats. The store also has an impressive collection of sports and university pennants, along with music tees, designer clothing, and some university apparel. There’s even a BU shirt from the late 1960s. With some items beginning at only $10, the Felt Fanatic is a sports fan’s dream closet.

Weeks of Welcome: Drive-In Movie

It’s still officially summer, and spending a warm night taking in a free drive-in movie can’t be beat. As part of its Weeks of Welcome, BU Student Activities is hosting a free screening of the 2018 Pixar hit comedy The Incredibles 2 on Friday at Nickerson Field. No outside food is allowed, but free movie snacks will be provided. Grab a group of friends, and a comfortable blanket, and head over to Nickerson for a classic moviegoing experience. We hear it’s going to be pretty…incredible.

The Coldplay Experience at the Museum of Science

Sit back, look up, and enjoy the show. This month, the Museum of Science’s Charles Hayden Planetarium brings music to a whole new level. The musical experience, featuring music by Coldplay, seeks to engage audiences in what the museum describes as “a sensory journey full of innovation, artistry, and imagination set to the pulsating soundtrack of an internationally renowned band.” The show is both Friday and Saturday nights throughout September, so grab your tickets before they sell out

The Coldplay Experience is at the Museum of Science Charles Hayden Planetarium Friday and Saturday nights throughout September at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased here. The show runs approximately 40 minutes. Take an MBTA Green Line trolley to Science Park/West End.

SomerStreets: Strike Up the Bands!

Who doesn’t love a free concert? This Sunday, head over to Somerville for an afternoon of music, food, and art, presented by ONCE Somerville. The festival features performances by local bands Lockette, sister, and Awaaz Do. Cuban sandwiches (meat and veggie-friendly) will be available for purchase from Cuisine en Locale, along with vendors selling handmade crafts. The event also includes various interactive games and activities, like hockey, football, walking on stilts, face-painting, and more. Tickets are free, and it all begins at 2 pm.

SomerStreets: Strike Up the Bands! is this Sunday, September 16, from 2 to 6 pm at 156 Highland Ave., Somerville. Get your free tickets here. Take an MBTA Green Line trolley to Lechmere, then the 88 Clarendon Hill bus to Highland Avenue at Central Street.
