Calling all country musicians: Loretta’s Last Call, the popular Fenway country bar and restaurant, hosts its weekly Singer-Songwriter Night tonight, where musicians of all stripes (solo acts, bands, veteran performers, and newbies) can take a crack at performing in front of a live audience—and have a great networking opportunity as well. And those who’d rather listen than perform can check out some of the finest local performers.

The crowd is historically laid-back and relaxed, an ideal audience for those new to performing. Loretta’s takes care of all the heavy lifting: amplifiers are on stage and a sound technician is on hand to assist. Prospective performers are asked only to bring their instrument of choice and their voice. Musicians perform in Nashville-style rounds with other local singer-songwriters.

Audience members will want to sample the restaurant’s Southern-style menu, with appetizers like griddled corncakes, fried green tomatoes, and catfish sliders and entrées such as shrimp and grits, chicken and sausage gumbo, vegetarian etouffe, and Nashville-style fried chicken. The bar has extensive selections of moonshine and whiskey for those over 21.

Loretta’s has earned a devoted group of fans, drawn by the live music offerings. Those looking to break in their new pair of cowboy boots can take advantage of the free line dancing classes offered each Tuesday and Sunday.

In addition to great food and entertainment, Loretta’s has an inviting honky-tonk atmosphere, with walls adorned with photos of legendary country singer-songwriters like Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton. It’s just possible that one of this evening’s singer-songwriters may someday find their photo there.

Singer-Songwriter Night at Loretta’s Last Call, One Lansdowne St., Boston, begins tonight and every Monday night at 7 p.m. and is free and open to attendees of all ages. Prospective performers can email WHarrington@lorettaslastcall.com for more information and to sign up. Find a full schedule of upcoming events here.
