  1. I tend to disagree with the premise that most of the research is dealing with it after you have it. Sure the artificial pancreas has made a lot noise lately as the bio artificial pancreas and cell encapsulated therapies are gaining headlines but the vaccine and other hypotheses have been around longer and so have many other preventive theories. So much so that my T1D daughter were starting to think that that was really the only research that was being done. To prevent it. And the others that have already have had it would be left to continue to struggle with it. I know that’s not true but it sure feels like it at times. What I find interesting with that is how would you know if it actually worked since no one is sure as to what the external environmental factors are that set in motion. Some can have the gene they’re whole lives never develop it. So how would you know if it truly then worked or if they were just not exposed to that environmental trigger? I’m not trying to be ugly or hurtful. As a parent of a child with type 1 diabetes I feel for all dealing with this disease. Just curious and asking questions.

  2. I wonder how are you going to predict which subgroup of population is going to develop Type 1 Diabetes and target them ? Does Vegas mean to block the immune system in each and every newborn child as a means to prevent Type 1 Diabetes ?
