Women’s Field Hockey Sets Records
When the women’s field hockey team was tied 1-1 with the University at Albany in the America East Conference Championship last Sunday, Pamela Spuehler (CAS’08) set out to step up her game. Spuehler, who was the America East Rookie of the Year as a freshman and a third-team All-American as a sophomore, helped the Terriers score three more goals, securing a bid to the NCAA tournament and marking the first time in school history that the team has won three consecutive America East titles.
“It was really a whole team effort in the end,” says Spuehler, who was chosen the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. “I think we all realized this could have been the last game of the season, and we just took control.”
The Terriers compete this weekend against the University of Iowa in the first round of the NCAA tournament, their 10th NCAA appearance. The game is on Saturday, November 10, at 2 p.m. at the George J. Sherman Family-Sports Complex at the University of Connecticut Storrs campus.
“We’re really just focused on our next game,” Spuehler says. “We’re trying not to look past that and just taking it step-by-step and day by day.”
