{"id":3489,"date":"2021-04-22T10:59:45","date_gmt":"2021-04-22T14:59:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/thurman\/?p=3489"},"modified":"2021-04-22T11:39:05","modified_gmt":"2021-04-22T15:39:05","slug":"meditation-memories-crowd-upon-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/thurman\/meditation-memories-crowd-upon-us\/","title":{"rendered":"Meditation: &#8220;Memories Crowd Upon Us&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><em>The following meditation, titled &#8220;Memories Crowd Upon Us,&#8221; is from Thurman&#8217;s Meditations of the Heart.<\/em><\/div>\n<div>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<div>Memories crowd upon us as we look back over the week just passed:<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span>Many high hopes &#8211; many dreams unfulfilled;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>Many blunders made and, in the sharpness of our anguish,\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>We would turn back the wheels of time and try again.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span>Many joys that were unanticipated;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>Many little graces by which our faith in ourselves and in life\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>Is lifted up and strengthened &#8211;\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>Much for which we need to be forgiven;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>Much we need to forgive.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span>All around us, our Father, there are reminders of Thy Presence in our midst:\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>Pangs of conscience,<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>A spontaneous impulse to do the kind and gracious thing,<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>The sensitiveness to another&#8217;s needs,<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>The great burden of anguish which we feel as we look out upon the world.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span>Teach us, O living Spirit, the wisdom to lay ourselves<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>Bare to Thy scrutiny &#8211; that we may reflect Thy life<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>In the dark places of our minds, hearts and desires;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>That we may know Thy courage &#8211; and the grounds of Thy hope<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>for the children of men.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The following meditation, titled &#8220;Memories Crowd Upon Us,&#8221; is from Thurman&#8217;s Meditations of the Heart.
