Workaround for HOD issue after Java update
Problem:
When upgrading to Sun Java 6.0 update 15, 16, or 17, the IBM Host On-Demand cached client and download client no longer loads in any browser.
Symptom:
The HOD cached client stops loading even if the client is already installed on the client machine. The problem produces an exception in the java console:
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError. The download client might also fail to load.
Cause:
Sun introduced a new architecture in jav 6.0 update 10. Consequently, changes in 6.0 update 15 cause a load problem with the HOD cached client. This is an issue with the Sun Java and not a bug in HOD. Sun has determined there to be a bug in their code and is being fixed in 1.6.0_18. The link to the Sun bug is included below.
Resolving the Problem:
Update to Java 1.6.0_18 or later.
Workaround:
As a work around for Java on Windows, the Next-generation plug-in can be disabled in the Java control panel.
1. Open the Java control panel.
2. Select the Advanced tab.
3. Select Java plug-in.
4. Uncheck ‘Enable the next-generation Java plug-in’.
