{"id":105988,"date":"2017-04-06T15:15:23","date_gmt":"2017-04-06T19:15:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/?p=105988"},"modified":"2017-04-06T15:18:43","modified_gmt":"2017-04-06T19:18:43","slug":"new-telephone-dialing-enhancement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/2017\/04\/06\/new-telephone-dialing-enhancement\/","title":{"rendered":"New Desktop Telephone Dialing Enhancement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">We\u2019re pleased to provide more good news regarding our desktop telephone migration project.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\"><b><i>Pressing\u00a0<\/i><\/b><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><b><i>9<\/i><\/b><\/span><span class=\"s1\"><b><i>\u00a0before dialing an external phone number is no longer necessary from new desktop telephones; just press\u00a0<\/i><\/b><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><b><i>1<\/i><\/b><\/span><span class=\"s1\"><b><i>\u00a0and the 10 digits that follow, or, for international calls,\u00a0<\/i><\/b><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><b><i>011<\/i><\/b><\/span><span class=\"s1\"><b><i>\u00a0followed by the international numbers as appropriate.<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">5-digit calling within the campus will continue to work as it does today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Along with simplification, this modest change has been implemented to reduce the likelihood of pressing an additional\u00a0<span class=\"s2\">1<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0after dialing\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s2\">91<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0for an outside line, thereby inadvertently invoking emergency <\/span><span class=\"s2\">911<\/span><span class=\"s1\"> services.
