Some people\u00a0suggest shorter sessions while others\u00a0think they should be\u00a0longer. Some encourage me to set up sessions for users with limited background working with computers and others request more advanced sessions. The moral of the story seems to be\u00a0that there is no single size that fits all training needs or learning styles.<\/p>\n<p>Related to this conundrum, one idea I have been kicking around\u00a0is developing a few short sessions (one hour or less) that are focused on just one or two topics. For example, maybe an online workshop that uses a Funds Management report to find open commitments would suit many employee&#8217;s needs. Or perhaps a one-hour\u00a0session using the HCM\u00a0Employee Master Data Snapshot report to answer questions about employee data would be valuable. For more information, read about recent modifications to the PA15 and PA12 Labor Distribution reports described\u00a0<\/span><span>in the Tips &amp; Tricks section below.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Training Calendar<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>April\/May Training Opportunities<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Upcoming Intermediate-level Workshops<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/phpbin\/training\/register\/index.php?admingroup_id=22&amp;course_id=1752\">SRM Reports: Introduction to the recently-released reports<\/a> &#8211; available to employees with the shopper or approver role who have previously attended\u00a0an introductory-level BW training session. These sessions present to new employees &#8211; or employees assigned a new business role &#8211; the fundamentals of reporting for\u00a0a particular subject area. The sessions are a great way to review material, too. Regardless, we hope you find value in these and future Tips, even if we do no more than remind you of the existence of tools you once knew about but had since forgotten.<\/p>\n<p>Note: all of the Tips posted in BW\u00a0newsletters are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/support\/buworks\/newsletters\/bw\/tips-tricks-archive-old\/\">archived on this page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>How to Create a Split Cost Distribution Report<\/h3>\n<p>Previously, it was up to users of the PA15 or PA12 Labor Distribution reports to use the BW\u00a0cell calculation function to generate percentages based on salary amounts per payment period. Unfortunately, the cell calculation feature broke when we updated to the latest version of the Business Warehouse, so this feature, which proved valuable\u00a0to many payroll coordinators and managers, forced users to manually perform the calculation in Excel.\u00a0However, recent modifications\u00a0to these two reports\u00a0obviates the need for individuals to insert their own calculations.<\/p>\n<p>The solution? Three new Key Figures have been added to these two reports. Each of the Figures\u00a0<span>show percentages corresponding to the payment amounts displayed in the <\/span><em>Salary<\/em><span>, <\/span><em>Salary Accrual<\/em><span>, and <\/span><em>Total Gross<\/em><span> Key Figures. These percentages are hidden initially but, when they are made visible, report output looks like this:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/tech\/files\/2016\/04\/split_distribution_key_fig.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/tech\/files\/2016\/04\/split_distribution_key_fig.jpg\" alt=\"split_distribution_key_fig\" width=\"501\" height=\"213\" class=\"  wp-image-98592 alignleft\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/files\/2016\/04\/split_distribution_key_fig.jpg 747w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/files\/2016\/04\/split_distribution_key_fig-636x271.jpg 636w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 501px) 100vw, 501px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In this example, <em>Salary % Distribution <\/em>percentage shows the percentage represented by each payment amount, by funding source, tied to\u00a0employee payments.
