{"id":80571,"date":"2014-05-27T13:53:04","date_gmt":"2014-05-27T17:53:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/?page_id=80571"},"modified":"2024-12-05T14:40:44","modified_gmt":"2024-12-05T19:40:44","slug":"enroll-device","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/support\/duo\/enroll-device\/","title":{"rendered":"Enroll a Device"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The first time you attempt to log in to any Boston University service that requires two-factor authentication you will be redirected to a set-up page like this:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Click <strong>Start Setup<\/strong> (and click through prompts.)<br \/>\n<a href=\"\/tech\/files\/2016\/08\/1_Duo_NewDevice_Add.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/tech\/files\/2023\/08\/DuoEnrollment1.png\" alt=\"1_Duo_NewDevice_Add\" width=\"345\" height=\"385\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-100843\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Smart phone:<\/strong> iPhone or Android<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tablet:<\/strong> common examples include iPad models or Android devices like Nexus 7, Nexus 10, etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Security Key: <\/strong>A security key plugs into your USB port and when tapped or when the button is pressed it sends a signed response back to Duo to validate your login.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Enroll a Smart Phone<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\">\n<h3>Enroll Your Smartphone<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Enter your phone number. Numbers can be entered with or without punctuation, e.g., 617-353-2000 or 6173532000 are both acceptable.<\/li>\n<li>Click the checkbox to confirm the number was entered correctly, then click the <strong>Continue<\/strong> button.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0When enrolling a smart phone, indicate which type of device you will use in the registration process:<em><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This example demonstrates the process for an Windows\u00a0phone, but the process is the same for the other smart devices listed.<\/p>\n<p>If you have installed the Duo Mobile app, click the checkbox indicating <em><strong>I have Duo Mobile installed<\/strong><\/em> and press the <strong>Continue<\/strong> button.<br \/>\n<a href=\"\/tech\/files\/2016\/08\/6_Duo_NewDevice_InstallDuo.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/tech\/files\/2016\/08\/6_Duo_NewDevice_InstallDuo.png\" alt=\"6_Duo_NewDevice_InstallDuo\" width=\"345\" height=\"385\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-100848\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t yet have the app installed follow these instructions:<\/p>\n<div class=\"highlight-yellow\">\n<h4>Downloading and Installing the Duo Mobile App<\/h4>\n<p><strong> iOS devices (e.g., iPhone or iPad)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Launch the <strong>App Store<\/strong> app on your phone or tablet and search for \u201cDuo Mobile.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Free<\/strong> and then tap <strong>Install<\/strong> to download the app.<\/li>\n<li>You will have to tap <strong>OK<\/strong> again when asked if Duo Mobile should be able to send push notifications.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Android devices \u2013 phones and tablets<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the <strong>Google Play Store<\/strong> app on your phone and search for \u201cDuo Mobile.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Free<\/strong> and then tap <strong>Install<\/strong> to download the app.<\/li>\n<li>You will have to tap <strong>OK<\/strong> again when asked if Duo Mobile should be able to send push notifications.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Additional device-specific information for Duo Mobile apps is available:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-left: 2.5em;\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/duo-mobile\/id422663827?mt=8\">Apple iOS Devices<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.duosecurity.duomobile&amp;hl=en\">Android Devices<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>Once the app is installed:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open <strong>Duo Mobile<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Tap the <strong>+<\/strong>\u00a0button.<\/li>\n<li>Tap <strong>Scan Barcode<\/strong>\u00a0(you will need to hold your phone up to the computer screen to scan the barcode).\u00a0<strong>NOTE: Please Scan the Barcode on your own authentication session not the one from this page.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Scan the barcode.<\/li>\n<li>Click the <strong>Continue<\/strong> button on your computer when the scan and device confirmation steps are complete.<\/li>\n<li>A &#8220;Device successfully enrolled&#8221; message is displayed and the phone number of the registered device is indicated on your computer.<\/li>\n<li>If you want to register other devices, press the <strong>Enroll another device<\/strong> button. Click <strong>Continue to Login<\/strong>, depending on your U2F token model, you&#8217;ll need to tap, insert, or press the button on your U2F authenticator to proceed.
