{"id":80390,"date":"2014-05-22T10:34:18","date_gmt":"2014-05-22T14:34:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/?page_id=80390"},"modified":"2024-09-18T16:12:24","modified_gmt":"2024-09-18T20:12:24","slug":"eduroam","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/services\/infrastructure\/networks\/wireless\/eduroam\/","title":{"rendered":"eduroam"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>What is eduroam?<\/h2>\n<p>As described on <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eduroam.org\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">eduroam.org<\/a>, &#8220;eduroam (<strong>edu<\/strong>cation <strong>roam<\/strong>ing) is the secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community.&#8221; Through BU&#8217;s affiliation with eduroam, you can connect to the eduroam wireless network at <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eduroam.org\/where\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">participating institutions<\/a>, worldwide, simply by logging in with your BU email address and password.<\/p>\n<h2>How do I connect to eduroam?<\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<ol>\n<li>From your computer or device, select <strong>eduroam<\/strong>, from the list of available networks.<\/li>\n<li>Log in to eduroam using your<strong> full BU email address<\/strong> in the form <strong><em>login<\/em>@bu.edu<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Provide the password you use to access your BU email account.<\/strong> For most people at BU, this password is the BU Kerberos password that you use to access most other BU resources.<\/li>\n<li>I<span>f prompted to accept a certificate during the setup process, please do so.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><strong><span>For newer Android devices, <\/span><\/strong>it&#8217;s essential to specify &#8220;radius.bu.edu&#8221; as the domain name for the eduroam certificate or choose &#8220;Trust on First Use&#8221; to avoid connection issues. Without this domain, the phone may only offer &#8220;Do not validate&#8221; or &#8220;unspecified&#8221; options, preventing connection to the eduroam network. Do I need to sign in again?<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><br \/>\nAfter connecting your devices to eduroam once at any participating institution, your devices will connect automatically when you roam to another institution.<\/p>\n<p>If you are transferring affiliation from one institution to another, you will need to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/services\/infrastructure\/networks\/wireless\/eduroam\/transitioning-from-institutions-using-eduroam\/\">remove your previous institution&#8217;s eduroam configuration before connecting again<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<h3>Connectivity<\/h3>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Why can I access most websites, but not some BU on-campus resources on eduroam?<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>Some resources, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/services\/cccs\/printing\/myprint\/\">MyPrint<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/services\/infrastructure\/storage-backup\/network-file-storage\/\">network file storage<\/a>, can only be accessed from eduroam while physically on campus and while authenticated using your BU credentials. If you are on campus, but still cannot reach them, you may be connected to eduroam using another institution&#8217;s credentials. Please follow our guide on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/services\/infrastructure\/networks\/wireless\/eduroam\/transitioning-from-institutions-using-eduroam\/\">Transitioning from Institutions Using eduroam<\/a> to reconnect with your BU credentials.<\/p>\n<p>If you are connected to eduroam with your BU credentials at another institution and wish to access BU on-campus resources, you will still need to use the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/services\/cccs\/remote\/vpn\/\">BU VPN<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Why can't I access anything after connecting to eduroam?<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>If you are using any 3rd party VPN or proxy services, these may be interfering with your ability to access BU and other resources. Please review any products you may have installed and your network proxy settings for things that may need to be removed. You can also <a href=\"https:\/\/bu.edu\/tech\/contact\">contact us or visit an IT Help Center location for assistance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<h3>Access<\/h3>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Are there any considerations I should make when coming to BU from another institution that used eduroam?<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>Yes, if you are no longer affiliated with your previous institution, you should remove previous eduroam configurations before reconnecting. Please view our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/services\/infrastructure\/networks\/wireless\/eduroam\/transitioning-from-institutions-using-eduroam\/\">Transitioning from Institutions Using eduroam guide<\/a> for assistance.<\/p>\n<p>If you have multiple affiliations with other institutions and need to access on-campus resources, you may need to reconnect when traveling between campuses. On macOS, you can also use <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/105129\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Network Locations<\/a> to quickly switch configurations as you travel.<br \/>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Why isn't eduroam accepting my password when I can log in on BU websites?<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>If you are able to log in to BU websites like <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.bu.edu\">Blackboard<\/a>, but cannot log in to eduroam with your BU email and password, there may be an issue with your account password.
