The people.bu.edu server hosts personal and group pages, and the central server (www.bu.edu) hosts pages for academic and administrative departments.<\/p>\n<p>Windows and Mac have different file transfer protocol (FTP) programs for uploading files from a computer to a server.<br \/>\n<strong>Windows users<\/strong> should use Dreamweaver or <a title=\"FileZilla\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/z-retired-pages\/windows\/filezilla\/\">FileZilla<\/a> &#8212; a free FTP client.\u00a0<strong>Mac users<\/strong> should use Dreamweaver or <a title=\"Cyberduck\" href=\"https:\/\/cyberduck.io\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cyberduck<\/a>, which is free.<\/p>\n<h2>Uploading Files using Dreamweaver<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Define a local site using the value below for the corresponding question:\n<p><strong>Host name \/ SFTP address of server:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>webdev.bu.edu<\/p>\n<p><strong>Folder on the server:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For sites on www.bu.edu, use <strong>\/web\/yoursite<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>For sites on other domains, use <strong>\/web\/example.bu.edu\/yoursite<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>FTP Login:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Enter your @bu.edu email address<\/p>\n<p><strong>FTP Password:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Enter your Kerberos password.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Connection Type:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Use <strong>Secure FTP (SFTP)<\/strong> only.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Updating Login\/Password:<br \/>\n<\/strong>If you&#8217;ve changed your BU (Kerberos) password for any reason, you&#8217;ll need to update Dreamweaver with the new password:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>In Dreamweaver, go to Site&gt; Manage Site. Double click on your website name.<\/li>\n<li>Here you will see your site definition that you set up when you started your site.<\/li>\n<li>Click next 3 times.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure your FTP login is set to your BU username.<\/li>\n<li>Next you will see \u201cWhat is my FTP password?\u201d \u00a0Type in your new password and click \u201cTest Connection.\u201d\u00a0 You should get the following message: \u201cAdobe Dreamweaver connected to your Web server successfully.\u201d\u00a0If not, please re-type your password and try again.<\/li>\n<li>Once connected click next, next, done.\u00a0 Now you should be able to publish changes to your website.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Uploading Files with an SFTP Client<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Open your SFTP client. We recommend <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/z-retired-pages\/windows\/filezilla\/\">FileZilla for Windows<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/cyberduck.io\/\">Cyberduck for Mac OS X<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>In the <strong>Host\u00a0<\/strong>or\u00a0<strong>Hostname<\/strong> field, fill in <em>webdev.bu.edu<\/em><\/li>\n<li>In the <strong>Username<\/strong> field, type your <em>BU login name<\/em> (the portion of your email address that appears before the @ sign.)<\/li>\n<li>On the <strong>Open Connection<\/strong> screen in Cyberduck, use the option outlined below. For FileZilla users, enter\u00a0<strong>22<\/strong> in the\u00a0<strong>Port<\/strong> field to switch to SFTP. <strong>Use Secure FTP (SFTP) only.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In the <strong>Password<\/strong> field, type your <em>Kerberos password.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/li>\n<li>In the <strong>Directory<\/strong>\u00a0or <strong>Remote site\u00a0<\/strong>field, type your <em>Web directory path<\/em>. For sites on www.bu.edu use <em>\/web\/sitename<\/em>. For sites on other domains, use <em>\/web\/example.bu.edu\/sitename<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>OK <\/strong>or <b>Quickconnect<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>All SFTP clients allow you to click and drag files to and from a location on your computer to the remote server.
