By default, most email clients don\u2019t automatically display all of this information for you &#8211; you will see just the basic header information, such as From, Subject, Date, and To, and the rest of the header is hidden. However, <strong>sometimes you will need to display full headers in order to send them in to the <a href=\"..\/desktop\/support\/help-center\/hours\/\">IT Help Center<\/a> for support.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Follow these steps to display full headers in a variety of e-mail clients<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Outlook\u00a0 (Mac)<\/h2>\n<p>Right-click on the message in the item list and select <strong>View Source.<\/strong> If you need to e-mail the full headers to the Help Center, you can select, copy, and paste the message text.<\/p>\n<h2>Outlook (Web)<\/h2>\n<p>Double-click to<strong> open the message <\/strong>you want headers for in its own window. Then, hover over the button bar at the top until you see the <strong>button <\/strong>called <strong>Message Details<\/strong>. Click on it and you will then see <strong>Internet headers<\/strong> in the resulting window. If you need to e-mail the full headers to the Help Center, you can select, copy, and paste the header text.<\/p>\n<h2>Outlook (Windows)<\/h2>\n<p>In order to get full headers, <strong>double-click on the message<\/strong> so it opens in a new window. Then go to <strong>File <\/strong>and click on <strong>Properties<\/strong> (on the Info tab). You will then see the <strong>Internet headers<\/strong> at the bottom of the window. If you need to e-mail the full headers to the Help Center, you can select, copy, and paste the header text.<\/p>\n<h2>macOS Mail<\/h2>\n<p>Go to the <strong>View<\/strong> menu and select <strong>Message<\/strong> and then choose <strong>Raw Source<\/strong>. To copy this information into a new message, you may then choose <strong>Edit:Copy<\/strong>, open a new message, and choose <strong>Edit:Paste<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Mozilla Thunderbird<\/h2>\n<p>Select the message you want headers for and choose <strong>View-Headers-All<\/strong>. If you are working on a support issue with the IT Help Center, you can simply forward the message now and all of the headers will be available to them. To hide full headers, choose View-Headers-Normal.<\/p>\n<h2>BU Google Mail <em>and<\/em> personal Gmail<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Double click the message to open it<\/li>\n<li>Click on the &#8220;three dots&#8221; button in the upper right corner of the message<\/li>\n<li>From the resulting pull-down menu, select <strong>Show Original<\/strong>. This action will open a separate window containing the raw message source, which includes your full headers.<\/li>\n<li>Copy the resulting message source and paste it into a new e-mail message, which you can then use to send in to the IT Help Center.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Yahoo<\/h2>\n<p>Open the mail message, then scroll down to the bottom of the message, and click on Full Headers, which is right justified along the line that has &#8220;Previous,&#8221; &#8220;Next,&#8221; etc. The message will not forward with full headers, but you can copy and paste the displayed headers into a new mail message, which you can then send in to the IT Help Center.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Incoming email messages contain information about the routing of the message between its sender and you.
